EPO temporary suspended the 50% surcharge of the late payment of renewal fees

On the 28th of May, the Administrative Council of the European Patent Organisation temporary suspended the application of Rule 51(2) EPC related to an additional fee for belated payment of a renewal fee for a European patent application.

In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the EPO has decided that as of 1 June 2020 until 31 August 2020 any renewal fee falling due on or after 15 March 2020 can be validly paid until 31 of August with no additional fee.
